The Clean Currents Coalition is a global network of projects working to combat plastic waste in rivers around the world

Peer-reviewed scientific research utilizing data collected by the Clean Currents Coalition, Assessing macroplastic debris collected from eight diverse river systems across four continents: Insights from synchronous three-year community-led research efforts, was published in the Journal of Environmental Management July 2025. This research presents and analyzes one of the largest global in situ datasets ever collected on macroplastic pollution in rivers, spanning three years (2020-2023) in a nearly continuous and synchronous fashion from eight diverse river systems in eight countries across four continents.
